Tom Grant, Chairman and CEO: Tom has served as Chairman since 2001. Prior to joining ThingMagic full-time as CEO in 2004, he was an early stage venture investor and business advisor to Boston's high technology companies. He is Founder and Managing Partner of Protos, and General Partner for Applied Technology, both early stage venture investment funds. He was previously with Softbridge MicroSystems, a PC software development company, and Data Resources, Inc., where he was group Vice President. Tom serves on the Board of Directors of several early stage corporations including TubesNow and Ambient Devices . He is a Trustee of Northeast Health Systems , a $300M community health system north of Boston, and founder and Director of Heads Up!, a non-profit devoted to linking community service activity and student-athletes.
Yael Maguire, Co-Founder is interested in the fundamental ties between information processing and physics, signal processing and nontraditional computing devices. He has modeled oil pipeline robots, developed software and electronics for aided inertial guidance systems and worked on advanced web programming and sensor fusion in collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He has an undergraduate degree in Engineering Physics from Queen's University in Canada, and a master's degree and doctorate from MIT Media Lab.
Ravi Pappu, Co-Founder currently runs the Advanced Development Group, which is tasked with developing cutting-edge systems based on our portfolio of RFID products and solving challenging RFID system optimization problems for our customers. Most recently, he led the design and implementation of the Tool Link system in collaboration with Ford Motor Company and DeWalt.
He received his Ph.D. from MIT for the invention of physical one-way functions. While at MIT, he co-created the first dynamic holographic video system with haptic interaction. He has published 25 papers, including a recent one titled "RFID Privacy Without Killing", and is a named inventor on 12 US and international patents. Ravi has been honored as one of Technology Review's top 100 innovators under the age of 35. He received the Carl T. Humphrey Memorial Award for Contributions to the Engineering Profession from Villanova University and was named a Fellow of the World Technology Network in 2006. Ravi co-conceived and implemented Asha For Education's "Work an Hour For Education" campaign in 1998. This event, now held annually, has raised approximately $1M for education in India. He is also one of the founders of Design That Matters, a non-profit that harnesses university students to solve challenging technical problems in the developing world. Bernd Schoner, Co-Founder & Managing Partner: Bernd's expertise includes time series prediction, nonlinear estimation, stochastic processes, machine learning, neural networks, and audio processing. His research has led to devices and software applications as unique as the Marching Cello, a wearable instrument providing the functionality of a cello, and a giant polyphonic floorboard for the Flying Karamazov Brothers. Despite his work on digital stringed instruments, he still enjoys playing his acoustic cello, and is also a competitive gymnast. Bernd holds a Diplom-Ingenieur in Electrical Engineering from Rheinisch-Westphälische Technische Hochschule Aachen, Germany, and an Ingénieur des Arts et Métiers in Industrial Engineering from Ecole Centrale de Paris, France. He received his Ph.D. from the MIT Media Laboratory in 2000.
Matt Reynolds, Co-Founder: Matt is an electrical engineer specializing in wireless communication systems. He has designed remote sensing and communication systems that have been deployed successfully at the south summit of Mt. Everest, on the Embree Glacier in Antarctica, in rural South America, and underwater in MIT's ORCA robotic submarine. Matt's research interests include low power wireless systems, embedded communications and networking, radiolocation systems, electronic circuits and devices, and digital signal processing. He has a Ph.D. from MIT Media Lab, where he was Motorola Fellow, and holds S.B. and M.Eng. degrees in electrical engineering and computer science from MIT.
Glenn Cozzens, VP Engineering, Operations, and Information Technology: Glenn is an experienced executive with over 28 years experience in establishing and leading high-tech Product Development, Operations and Manufacturing organizations. He brings expertise garnered from both successful startups and high-growth industry leading technology companies. Prior to joining ThingMagic, Glenn was an executive leader with Covergence, Quarry Technologies, WaterCove Networks, and Interspeed. He has also held Sr. Management and Engineering positions at PictureTel, Pitney Bowes, Digital Equipment Corporation, and Fairchild/Factron Test Systems
Kate Criniti-Faria, General Counsel: Kate was previously a Director in the Legal Department of VeriSign; Assistant General Counsel for Guardent; and an associate with Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault in Boston, where she focused on corporate and securities law, private equity, and mergers and acquisitions. She has an undergraduate degree from Bates College and a J.D. from Boston College Law School.
Margaret Wasserman, VP Open Interfaces: Margaret was previously an Engineering Fellow at Nokia Research Center, and Principal Technologist at Wind River Systems. She is co-chair of EPC Global's Software Action Group, serves on the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Steering Group and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Internet Society (ISOC).
Steve King, VP Marketing and Business Development: Steve has held executive positions including VP, Corporate Marketing at Macromedia, VP and General Manager Asia-Pacific for Lotus Development Corporation, and VP Marketing for Isys Corporation. He is a Senior Honorary Fellow of the Society for New Communications Research and a Senior Advisor at the Institute for the Future (IFTF).
